The Best Cast Iron Cookware?
There is something reassuring about the weight of a good piece of cast iron cookware as you cook a meal. Add to that the fact if you look after them they can last a lifetime, plus they can go straight from the stove to the oven, are dead easy to clean and are naturally resistant to the food sticking to the pan (make sure you cure them!), and it is easy to see why people still fall over themselves to buy cast iron cookware, oh and it can be dirt cheap too depending on what kind of set you buy.
We looked long and hard to find you the best cast iron cookware set we could, it wasn’t easy as we needed to balance the quality of the set with the price. In the end we had to choose two, we have the high-end, superb quality but expensive Le Creuset range, and then for people who want something a bit more reasonably priced then the Lodge Logic set we found is great value for money. You can find more details on each below:

Le Creuset Classic Enameled Cast-Iron 6-Piece Cookware Set
You can see from the picture to the right that this enameled cookware is high quality. Le Creuset are a French company who have been making cookware since 1925 and always produce superb quality items.
This set is enameled on both the inside and outside so there is no need for curing of the iron, yet you still get the same great heat transfer and even heating that the iron provides so readily. Remember you will probably need to use a lower heat to cook with cast iron than you would with other sets. This whole set is dishwasher proof and oven proof to 350 degrees F, even the lids with the phenloic stay-cool knobs!
The thing that sets this enameled set apart from others is the quality of both the casting and of the enamel, although you have to be prepared to pay for that quality! But if you look after this set then it should last you for decades without the enamel coming off like with cheaper sets.
The 6 pieces you get in this set are:
And the reviews online for both the set and each piece individually online are excellent, with the set having an average of 4.5 stars.

Lodge Logic Cast Iron 5-Piece Cookware Set
The first difference between this and the Le Creuset items is that these are bare metal rather than being enameled. The second thing you will notice if you use the links at the end of this review is that they cost a quarter of the price of the set above!
Lodge have been making cast iron cookware for over a hundred years, and they make a full range too, even enameled items like we spoke about above. This is their entry level set of bare metal cookware which contains two skillets, a griddle, a Dutch oven and a lid which fits both the Dutch oven and the larger skillet.
As it is not enameled then you will have to cure these items, but it also gives you the freedom to cook with them on open flames if you take them camping, and you can be as rough as you want with them without having to worry about chipping off any enamel.
The only negatives I’ve found are that the skillet handles are a bit too short, but other than that you get quality casting and cookware that will put up with just about any abuse you can give it, while heating easily and evenly and not costing you the earth!
